Final Forty Selected for 2009 Sunshine Coast Art Prize

The Sunshine Coast Art Prize has yet again attracted the best contemporary art Australia has to offer. From well over 400 entries from right around the country, a selection of 40 finalists has been recently chosen to exhibit in the Prize from 19 August – 4 October at the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery. A $20,000 cash and artists-in-residency prize is on offer for the winner which will be announced on 27 August. Some of the Sunshine Coast’s finest artists are amongst the final forty. Peter Hudson is represented as well as fellow artists Joanne Currie Nalingu and Lisa Lee.  The remainder of the forty finalists include Bianca Beetson, Kate Bergin, Sophie Bray, John Brigden, Frank Burgers, Barry Cheeseman, Megan Cope, Jonathan Crowther,  Nameer Davis, Rehgan de Mather, Michael Nader Dewhirst, Richard Dunlop, Samantha Everton, Robert Fenton, Erika Gofton, Greer Honeywill, Amaya Iturri, Jane James, Evan Jones, Ryan Jorgensen, Bronek Kozka, Song Ling, Michael Muir, Sebastian Nash, Annabel Nowlan, Catherine O’Donnell, Sonya Peters, Nic Plowman, Chris Ramsey, Van Rudd, Mateja Simenko, Ben Smith, Walter Stahl, Julie Stephenson, Mark Thompson, Irene Wellm and Fiona White.   Philip Bacon is this year’s Judge. Acclaimed gallery director and philanthropist Bacon, established the Philip Bacon Galleries in Brisbane in 1974 which is now established as Brisbane’s leading commercial art gallery attracting regular national attention. As with previous years the Sunshine Coast Art Prize is set to have another dynamic Public Program of events. These additional events hope to encourage all walks of life to enter the gallery to enjoy and be challenged by the work displayed.
